Three labels that are often confused

Flooring shoppers regularly see the words overstock, clearance and discontinued used as if they mean the same thing. They can overlap, but they describe different situations. Knowing the difference helps you understand why a product is discounted and what risks you should consider before buying it.

Overstock flooring

Overstock generally means there is more inventory than the seller wants to keep. The product may still be current, perfectly standard and available elsewhere at regular pricing. The discount is driven by inventory levels rather than a flaw in the material.

For a buyer in Torrance or Los Angeles, this is often the easiest category to shop because there may be meaningful quantity available without the product being at the end of its life cycle.

Clearance flooring

Clearance is a pricing status. A retailer or warehouse is intentionally reducing the price to move the material. A clearance item might be overstocked, discontinued, seasonal, slow-moving or simply taking up space needed for newer inventory. The reason matters, so ask.
